Terry's Thoughts April 2022
With Spring in full swing and as our activity levels have increased, remembering to not forget why we do that activity is critical. Obviously, everything we do ought to have, as its intended conclusion, the expression of the Gospel to reach the lost. Meaning that every activity, regardless of its nature, should be designed for His glory and His Gospel. Far too often our activities become busyness and we forget the intended purpose. If our busyness is overtaking the purpose, then the busyness needs to go and give room for the activity that matters. My own busyness has caused me to daily remember my purpose and plan my activities accordingly. It is not easy but must be a daily practice.
In keeping with the activity theme, I would also like to encourage you to not allow activity to steel your joy. I have found that when I get too busy my joy begins to wane. When the joy goes, then frustration and apathy set in. A particular passage that has caught my attention lately, especially dealing with the deficit of joy I see all around us, is Psalm 30. This is a passage at the conclusion of a section of laments that reminds us that our pain is only for a moment, but that JOY comes in the morning. While the pain and disappointment of life may be hard to navigate, truly in Christ, there is Joy. I have personally experienced that pain and joy lately. As most of you remember, I recently had some minor surgery (no surgery is minor when they must cut on you) that turned out fine; however, there was a lot of pain initially, but now I am experiencing that Joy they said would eventually come; PRAISE THE LORD! The application for us all is that while we may be enduring some hard times, pain, disappointment, and even trouble, when we remember to focus on Him more than the problem, He always has a way of solving the issue and brings Joy in the morning when we are faithful and show patience. I pray this mini sermon brings you a bit of joy once you read this article.
